We had a great character design workshop this week and we had a go at copying characters by using simple shapes and ‘mapping’ as the base:

It really makes you think about how you draw them so important for consistency. It also reminded me of the Aardman workshop we went to a few weeks ago. We were given instructions on how to make a Gromit along with some good tips on how to handle the plasticine. Something went wrong a long the way:
Mine was a lot shorter (1st on left) than the rest and he definitely looks traumatised!
I copied a few characters from a book I borrowed called ‘ ‘ :
I’m hoping it will spark something. I love the designs of the 50s but I’m not sure I want to create a character in that style.
